Collegiate Members Alumnae Members Board of Directors Member Development

Phi Sigma Sigma sisters are lawyers, journalists, psychologists, educators and doctors. They are businesswomen, politicians, mothers, philanthropists and engineers. They realize their dreams, are active members of their communities and serve as leaders of society.

Phi Sigma Sigma collegiate membership provides the foundation for future success. Collegians develop their skills through a variety of experiences, including:
  • Holding an office
  • Planning events
  • Serving others
  • Cultivating relationships
  • Attending national and regional conclaves
In addition, all sisters learn time management and fiscal responsibility.

Our national programs focus on the personal development of each sister and foster a commitment to excellence. These programs are based on three core values that define Phi Sigma Sigma: commitment to lifelong learning, inclusiveness and leadership through service.

Our Core Values The Vision Program Reflections

Our Core Values
Our core values distinguish Phi Sigma Sigma, unite us in our endeavors and become ingrained in our character. We live our core values when we recruit new members, as we chart the course of our college experience, and as we make decisions about career, family, and community involvement. Phi Sigma Sigma's core values are the basis for both our membership recruitment (Vision) and member development (Reflections) programs.

Lifelong Learning
As new members, as collegiate members and as alumnae, learning is a priority and we encourage our sisters to make the most of educational opportunities at our colleges and in our communities. Through education and challenging ourselves to reach new goals, we become women of influence and substance.

Inclusiveness
An inclusive sisterhood prepares its members for a world filled with diversity. By embracing our differences, we become a stronger organization that benefits not only our members, but those around us. We seek out and include women of various races, cultures, levels of ability, socioeconomic origin, backgrounds and perspectives.

Leadership Through Service
Phi Sigma Sigma believes that a woman who serves is also a woman who leads. By serving others, our members become more valuable citizens, students, parents, workers and community leaders.

The Vision Program
The most important woman to Phi Sigma Sigma's future is our next new sister!

The Vision Program is more than just a membership recruitment tool. Vision helps each chapter identify and communicate their unique selling points and those of our national organization. Vision allows our chapters to share Phi Sigma Sigma’s core values with members of the campus community. Through Vision, chapters are able to realize their full potential by living and sharing the Phi Sigma Sigma experience.

The program consists of a weekend long chapter retreat, led by a specially trained facilitator. Participants are engaged in a series of activities that highlight the role that Phi Sigma Sigma’s core values play in their daily lives.

“Since Vision, the Beta Rho Chapter has been extremely productive and motivated. Vision really helped our chapter realize what is important to us and what we need to collectively work and strive to accomplish. Everyone was excited about the positive attitude it provided to each individual sister.”
— Rhonda Gambill,
Beta Rho, Drexel University

“Vision helped us to retain all of our associating members. They thoroughly understood the program and the manuals were helpful in allowing them to learn fraternity education.”
— Abigail Fota,
Delta Chi, Shippensburg University

“Vision has helped me personally as having a better understanding of what my position as Membership Recruitment Chairman entitles. It has helped me have better ideas about how to have a successful recruitment. There is no part of Vision that has not worked for the benefit of our chapter.”
— Chelsea Shufelt,
Theta Beta, Coastal Carolina University

“Due to the success we have had with Vision, all of our older sisters are constantly thinking in terms of the Vision process. We utilize the skills we have gained through the Vision program as if it were second nature; representing ourselves well to promote an excellent image on campus as well as remaining cognizant of our responsibilities as recruiters.”
— Fiona Conroy,
Kappa, George Washington University

Reflections
Reflections is a lifelong program that challenges each and every Phi Sigma Sigma sister to live our core values from the moment she associates with our fraternity. It motivates sisters to continually reflect and build upon our core values semester after semester as a collegian, building a foundation for living the core values year after year as an alumna.

The cornerstone of the Reflections program is the individual member manual. This manual inspires thought and action through questions for reflection and goal setting exercises. Each sister takes time to reflect upon the lessons that this program teaches and considers how she can work to better incorporate those lessons into her daily life. Each chapter uses Reflections as the foundation for its calendar and programming, and chapter sisters are encouraged to reflect upon the program materials on a regular basis.

The program is divided into three modules to correspond to the stage of membership each sister has achieved:

Reflections for New Members: Understanding the Vision
Reflections guides new members through the fundamental stages of the sorority and college experience. The program provides the resources that promote a strong commitment to academics, illustrates how new members can embrace the differences that make each sister unique, and encourages new members to learn the importance of serving others. The manual presents methods for obtaining support during scholastic challenges, for interacting with a diverse mix of women, and for participating in meaningful community service activities. As a new member realizes the vision of our organization, she grows with her chapter as it works concurrently to reach tangible goals consistent with our core values.

Reflections for Collegiate Sisters: Acting on the Vision
The Reflections program supports collegians through subsequent stages of personal growth and the demands these college years can present. At this point, members work with the chapter to act in accordance with the core values they are incorporating daily via their manual. Strategies for setting high standards for academic achievement and chapter excellence are stressed, while the program also advocates specific actions that will create a truly inclusive membership. In addition, collegians will actively participate in meaningful philanthropic endeavors and direct service exchanges that help them to build leadership skills.

Reflections for Alumnae: Living the Vision
Reflections addresses Phi Sigma Sigma’s lifelong commitment as our women face the opportunities and challenges of higher education, career, family, community and retirement. Alumnae can rely on the Reflections manual for inspiration as they strive to reach their full potential and maintain our core values. Alumnae are encouraged to become lifelong learners, and to acknowledge the benefits of continuous education. They discover approaches for embracing inclusiveness every day, and become a motivating force in their communities as they commit to serve sorority, family and mankind.
