Organizational Structure Task Force Offers Update to Membership
Elkridge, Maryland (May 25, 2006) – In February 2006, the Organizational Structure Task Force shared with the sisterhood the initial recommendations it presented to Supreme Council. These recommendations were based on research conducted within Phi Sigma Sigma (i.e., focus groups, individual interviews and a member survey), best practices in use by other international fraternity and sorority groups, literature on effective nonprofit leadership and the professional experience of a consulting team. Additional information about the recommendations can be found on the Fraternity’s Web site.
This spring, the task force has worked to share the recommendations with our members. The task force was represented at 8 of the 10 Regional Leadership Conferences to present its findings and to reach out to collegiate leaders and alumnae volunteers. Task force members have solicited feedback from Fraternity members at every level of involvement and continue to catalog and answer the comments and questions that have been received. In addition, copies of the initial report are available upon request and have been distributed to several interested sisters.
The task force is currently reviewing its initial report and member feedback to draft final recommendations. This work will take place throughout the summer. Future plans include sharing the final recommendations with Supreme Council and the sisterhood this fall, soliciting feedback from both groups and proposing constitutional changes for delegates to vote on during Convention 2007.
The overall objective of the task force remains to examine the Fraternity’s current structure and recommend any changes that may be needed to ensure that Phi Sigma Sigma achieves its mission and vision. Task force members are excited about this important undertaking and hope that sisters will continue to ask questions as the Fraternity moves through the process.
Phi Sigma Sigma is an international women’s fraternity founded in 1913 at Hunter College in New York City. Currently, Phi Sigma Sigma has over 55,000 initiated members worldwide, with 110 collegiate chapters and colonies and more than 100 alumnae groups across North America. More information on the organization can be found at www.phisigmasigma.org.
