Indicate your desire to start an alumnae club or chapter by sending a
note to Headquarters at PhiSigHQ@phisigmasigma.org.
All groups identifying a formal contact, whether
with the intention to achieve chapter status or not, are recognized
as clubs.
Your membership manager will guide you through the process of setting up
your club, which is outlined below.
- Reach out to local alumnae via phone, e-mail, or mail to generate
interest for the alumnae club.
- Schedule a meeting of interested alumnae.
- Identify a contact person for the group. Send her information, as well as the name
of your group, to the membership manager.
- Determine if your group wants to achieve alumnae chapter status.
If your group's intent is to achieve alumnae chapter status, notify
your membership manager as soon as possible so that she can help you in this
endeavor. An alumnae club can become a chapter at any time of the
year. Groups or clubs achieving alumnae chapter status are installed at the next Convention during the ritual
ceremony. At least one representative from the alumnae chapter should
attend in order to participate in the ceremony to receive their
chapter’s charter. The following outlines the steps to becoming
an alumnae chapter.
- The group must hold at least four events (this is required to
maintain alumnae chapter status once granted) and those events
need to include a Founders' Day celebration, a heartraiser (a
philanthropic event such as helping at a homeless shelter or participating
in Habitat for Humanity), and a fundraiser. The group should support
any local Leadership Conferences and collegiate chapters.
- Set dues based on the types of activities you want to have.
Consider adopting a formal budget in order to organize your expenses.
- Select officers for your group either by electing them or simply
asking for volunteers. To get started you will need an archon,
vice archon, bursar, and scribe. Additional positions include
a Panhellenic delegate, recruitment chairman, fundraising and
philanthropy chairman, and a bylaws chairman.
- Open a bank account and start collecting dues.
- Is there a local alumnae Panhellenic association (APh)? Consider appointing
or electing a delegate from your alumnae group to join the local
APh. There may be annual dues for the APh, so
keep this in mind as well when setting your chapter dues.
- Submit a roster of current members to Headquarters via your membership manager.
- Submit a copy of your chapter bylaws to Headquarters via your membership manager.
- Conduct a fundraiser for the Phi Sigma Sigma Foundation and
make a donation.
